China. Children in Crisis.

Projects - Past
Children in Crisis, China

In the remote highlands of central China in 1999, over 50 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. At least 150 children in the township of Dritog were orphaned or from extremely poor families, unable to support them. The nomadic yak-herding lifestyle of most families meant that only 20 percent of Dritog Town's children attended school. Those who did slept on the cold stone floors of dilapidated school buildings. In conjunction with a local charity, Children in Crisis constructed a new orphanage and school buildings with proper heating, dormitories and sanitation facilities, enabling local children to live and learn in a healthy environment. TRAID's donation of £5,000 in 1999 allowed for the purchase of beds for the students of this orphanage.
